Witness the iconic Sri Lankan coastal tradition of "Ritipenna", balancing on vertical wooden poles above crashing surf.
Stilt fishing is an old artisanal fishing method unique to the southern coastline of Sri Lanka, particularly around Koggala, Ahangama, and Weligama. Fishermen balance precariously on a crossbar attached to a single wooden pole planted into the seabed coral reefs, casting lines into the breakers without casting shadows that would scare away schools of spotted herrings and mackerel.
