About Yala National Park
Bordering the deep Indian Ocean in southeastern Sri Lanka, Yala National Park spans over 978 square kilometers of dry thorn scrub, monsoon forests, lagoons, and sandy beaches. It is internationally renowned for having one of the highest densities of leopards (Panthera pardus kotiya) on earth. Alongside leopards, safaris frequently encounter herds of wild elephants, sloth bears, spotted deer, marsh crocodiles, and over 215 bird species.
